This session gives an early look at what the Nov. 3 election results will mean for the membership of the key tax committees and the potential affect on tax legislation as well as the IRS budget. The results of this election will fundamentally affect the direction of tax legislation for the next two years until the 2028 election.

This unique panel will bring together voices familiar with the inner workings of Congress and the tax community, both from the perspective of working inside and outside of government. It will give the tax community an early look at what the election results mean for professionals working in the tax arena, ranging from return preparers to tax attorneys.

In addition, this session will explore what may happen in a lame-duck session this fall as the current Congress wraps up work before year's end. There is the possibility of Congress giving final consideration to the Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act, a sweeping set of provisions that have wide support in the tax community. And the panel will also explore if other tax proposals have a chance to make it into law during the final weeks of 2026.
Agenda
  • Review the initial results of the critical mid-term elections.
  • Learn what this means for the membership of key tax-writing committees, including House Ways and Means, the Senate Finance Committee, and appropriations committees.
  • Understand the potential impact the election results have on the new Congress and tax issues in 2027.
  • Look at what a lame-duck session of Congress this fall could mean for the Taxpayer Assistance and Service (TAS) Act and other tax provisions.
